路成文编写的《咏物文学与时代精神之关系研究(以唐宋牡丹审美文化与文学为个案)》的基本研究思路是，先从风俗史的角度对唐宋六百年牡丹审美玩赏之风习进行深入而系统的考察，在此基础上，对此期牡丹赋、牡丹诗词等进行系统解读与阐述，借此分别呈现唐宋社会牡丹审美风尚之转移，以及唐宋文人士大夫牡丹审美文化心理之嬗变。通过风俗史与文学主题演进史之互参互证，从一个特定的具体的角度来共同呈现彼时时代精神之变迁。由于唐宋笔记小说中尚有大量牡丹资料尚未为研讨牡丹文化者所整理和充分利用，故以附录形式予以辑录。(Study On Relationship Between Literature Of Describing Things And Spirit Of The Time: Aesthetic Culture And Literature Of Peony In Tang And Song Dynasty is compiled by Lu Chengwen. The basic research idea is investigating in-depth and systematically, firstly, the 600 years' customs of peony aesthetic appreciation in Tang and Song Dynasty from the angle of customs history. On this basis, it interprets and narrates poems about the peony, and shows the transferring customs of appreciating peony in Tang and Song Dynasty, as well as the transferring of peony aesthetic cultural psychology of literati in Tang and Song Dynasty. Through mutual reference and provident of customs history and literary theme's evolution history, this book shows the transferring of the time spirit from a certain specific perspective. Because there are a lot of materials about peony in Tang and Song Dynasty's literary sketches that have not been organized and used by peony scholars, the material is added in the form of appendix.)
