The study on feminism in Malaysia has gone through its initial teething phase. This book takes the reader to the next level with a discussion from a more recent angle using the gynocriticism framework proposed by Showalter. Well-organised and fortified with pertinent arguments and examples, the discussion provides a clear overview on the literary practices of women writers, which are based on female biology and experience. The unique and different female poetics is a deconstruction of mainstream poetics (male) and therefore, subversive in nature as the elements entail feelings, voice, desires, symbolism, imagery, discourse and style, which are closely associated with the biological nature of female authors. These elements are found their works of famous authors from Indonesia and Malaysia, including Titis Basino, Oka Rusmini, Ayu Utami and Toety Heraty from Indonesia, and Azmah Nordin, Rosmini Shaari, Fatimah Busu and Zaharah Nawawi from Malaysia. The elements that directly or indirectly influence the creation of this type of poetics in these two countries are also discussed in the book. This book is an important endeavour by the author to discover the literary minds of Malaysian female authors and thus, do justice to their discourse and existence. This is an important reading and reference material that all researchers and students of literature should own.
