(Published in 1876, this book refers to a story occurring in an ordinary town by the Mississippi Riverin the second half of the 19th century. Based on the environment the author was familiar with as well as the author's rich and interesting experience, the story depicts adventures of three naughty and lovely kids (Tom, Huckleberry, the girl Becky). The story occurred before American Civil War. The town St. Petersburg where the story occurred was an epitome of the society of the USA that time. By describing the adventure of the leading character Tom, the author tartly satirized and criticized the false and vulgar social customs, the insincere religious rites and the banal education that time. This book features vivid and interesting plots. In particular, characters' mental activities are depicted as appropriate in a detailed and absolutely lifelike way, fully revealing children's characteristics.
