"Long Day's Journey Into Night" by Eugene O'Neill was first published in 1956, although it had been written in 1941 and 1942.

This four-act play is considered to be the playwright's masterwork. When it was first launched, it proved to be an instant success.

The playwright, Eugene O'Neill, was awarded Pulitzer Prize, posthumously, in 1957.

The action of the play covers the time period of one day from morning till midnight in the month of Augusts 1912. The play is set at the seaside Connecticut home of the Tyrones.

The Tyrones semi-autobiographically represent the author himself, his older brother, and their parents at their home which was called 'Monte Cristo Cottage.'
