This is a sweet romance fantasy fiction short story (word count 4,598).

Lord Daniel Clifford, a powerful witch, is woken up in the middle of the night by his maid Rhiannon, who comes to warn him about a group of witches called the new order who are on their way to imprison him.
Daniel is full of outrage at such an attack against him, but controls himself enough to listen to Rhiannon's rational words and escape before they get their hands on him, allowing him to come back to fight them another day, when the odds are more in his favour.
Up until that point, Daniel had always been satisfied to avoid any decision-making with regard to joining the new order of witches who believe in enslaving all humans. But as he spends more time with Rhiannon and acknowledges his growing attraction for her, he eventually comes to understand the decision he must make and the powerful reason behind it!
