This wonderful slouch hat, inspired by the colorful patchwork caps seen at Renaissance fairs around the country, requires extremely basic knitting skills. The only complicated factors relate to slipping and picking up stitches. There is also a three needle bind-off needed at the end.

The pattern describes how to create either a straight band or a roll band. The full array of reference photographs, gives you ideas for color schemes using four or eight colors.
