Over the past six decades, the book has been translated into more than thirty different languages. Unlike other translated versions, the English translation of the book was highly successful. More than a million copies of the book have been sold only in the United States.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez was one of the greatest admirers of the book. He admitted once during an interview that he was greatly inspired by "Pedro Paramo." He said that having written his first four books, he felt blocked and he was not able to write anything. He discovered "Pedro Paramo" in 1961 and read it. He says that the book inspired him to write his masterpiece "One Hundred Years of Solitude."

Gabriel Garcia Marquez was so much impressed by the book that he once said that he could recite the whole book, forwards and backwards.

Jorge Luis Borges, one of the greatest scholars, once mentioned that "Pedro Paramo" is one of the greatest books ever written in any language.
