It compares the novel characters with historical figures for analysis to unveil the implied historical secrets. The author believes that every character of the novel is "playing the role" of historical figures in or out of Ming and Qing imperial palaces. One character may imply one figure, figures of generations or several figures in sequence, while several characters may play for different life periods of a single figure. As the last novel chapter concludes, "the book is a copy of stories related to and carved on a stone from heave, which is a twin form of JIA Baoyu".）
