Virginia Woolf, member of the Bloomsbury Group and author of such masterworks as To the Lighthouse, Mrs. Dalloway, and A Room of One's Own, is a literary and cultural icon, the subject of numerous books and movies. She suffered emotional breakdowns and mental and sexual abuse and committed suicide at age fifty-nine. Some blame her husband for her mental illness; others say he cared for her until her death. Here is her story.
