Synopsis

Catherine "Cat" Ramsey's world revolves around the boy across the street—João "Johnny" Abreu, the Portuguese immigrant's son whose green eyes and dark curls steal her heart from age six. 

In their idyllic Long Island suburb, Cat and Johnny's friendship is a constant: snowball fights, shared dinners, and whispered secrets in Portuguese and English. 

But as adolescence dawns, so do complications. Cat's late-blooming desires clash with Johnny's early-blooming ones. Their brief teenage romance crumbles because she feels uncomfortable getting close to him, pushing him into the arms of Nicole Ferman, a redhead with a wild streak—and Cat's nemesis.

By the time Cat is ready to be with Johnny, he's got eyes for Nicole—a conflicting love will only get more complicated as this story evolves. 

Meanwhile, Cat's family life starts to unravel. Her dad's alcoholism starts to go out of control, bringing Johnny into the fray.
