Growing up in Southern Virginia, coleslaw was a dish that accompanied many of our meals. During the summer, when outdoor cookouts happened almost every weekend, you knew for a fact that there would be a coleslaw dish. As kids we'd guess which kind of coleslaw we'd have. Sometimes it was the standard Southern style variety and other times it was something new and unusual – depending on the cook.
