This ebook builds on the inspiring 2013 Ashridge Conference on Multigenerational Challenges for the Organisation [AIRC3], and addresses the perceived lack of significant research on both the challenges and the opportunities for organisations of (a) an ageing workforce, and (b) a multi-generational workforce. While some research exists linking age to HR policies, early retirement, employability, or health and well-being, a focus on roles in the organisation, younger age groups (Gen Y) and in particular multigenerational organisational issues was missing. As pensionable age increases three to four generation groupings crowd in the same organisational space, creating new dynamics and challenges, globally, and the papers, originating from authors from three continents, reflect these. New research agendas emerge throughout this ebook. Due to the innovative topic area, much of the research reported has an innovative methodology, or reports pilot studies. To validate and extend these results other modes of research will be needed. Within the organisation similarities and differences associated with demographic variables such as age (group) and life-cycle stage, as well as gender, nationality and job type (e.g., front-line workers, managers, nurses, teachers, police, knowledge workers) should be explored - leading to fuller understanding of the dynamics between the different generational cohorts, how they work together, and their organisational mobility. His ebook fills a void in research and information on multigenerational challenges to the organisation, is an exciting read and much recommended.
