When I was born my parents were told I wouldn't live past the age of fifteen. My book is based on my struggle for life living with Cystic Fibrosis. From a child, to an adolescent, then lastly a young woman, fitting in and pretending I was healthy was always challenging. My life threatening disease had affected my life in many ways. My motivation to write about my true life journey came about when I was in hospital receiving IV antibiotic treatment. I put pen to paper and began reminiscing my life's events. It was as though my hand was going to explode. I couldn't stop writing; so much to say and I wanted to get it all down on paper while it was fresh in my mind. At one stage when I thought that I had run out of things to write about, my health incurred hick ups or I achieved another goal which gave me reason to continue writing further. Although in this book my life has been bombarded with the horrors of hospital, constant medication and treatment, the book is kind of like a celebration too; a celebration of my determination to live. Although life for me has been incredibly tough and nothing has ever fallen into my lap, I am alive, I made it past my life expectancy and better still, I am a mother. Motherhood is the greatest gift I could ever experience. Looking at what I have been through physically and mentally I now know that achieving anything is possible.
