"The Rover" by Aphra Behn first premiered in the year 1677. The play is also titled "The Banish'd."
Behn used to work as a spy for Charles II against the Dutch. Unfortunately, the king did not pay her expenses and it resulted in the loss of her meager income.
After her job as a spy, she reverted to her profession of writing. She decided to write to earn some money.
After the first performance of the play, Behn was highly inspired and she decided to write a sequel which she produced in 1681.
