Today, because of the present economic conditions many are on welfare and collecting food stamps. Without a doubt many need public assistance, either due to mental or physical handicaps or job layoffs or other temporary unforeseen circumstances.
Since the current political situation in this country the economic conditions aren't likely to improve for a while, more and more employment opportunities are being taken away because of government policies concerning health care and other policies.
These are the instances that public assistance is designed for and should continue, having said that, many are on public assistance that have no need for it or don't deserve it .It has become a way of life for many,sometimes for generations. It is not uncommon for someone to make more money on welfare than working a job.
