Growing up in Atlantic City, the heroine of Bobby's Girl weaves romantic American Bandstand fantasies of herself as part of the in-crowd that includes Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello, and Dick Clark until it all but chokes off her drab, middle class existence.
