난중일기(亂中日記)는 이순신이 임진왜란의 7년(1592 ~ 1598년) 동안 쓴 군중일기(軍中日記)로 전란의 구체적인 기록이 담겨 있다. 일기 7책과 서간첩 1책, 임진장초 1책까지 총 9권이 국보 제76호로 지정되어 있으며, 2013년 6월 18일 광주에서 열린 '제11차 유네스코 세계기록유산 국제자문위원회'에서 권고하고 유네스코가 받아들여 새마을운동기록물과 함께 '이순신 난중일기 및 서간첩 임진장초(書簡帖壬辰狀草)'의 이름으로 유네스코 세계기록유산으로 등재되었다.
