Little Nils, the hero in the book, is a naughter boy. He is changed by an evil spirit into a micro man, who happens to ride on the back of a white goose and start a long travel following a flock of wild geese. In the travel, he makes a lot of friends and malicious enenies. After experiencing the many dangers and difficulties, Nils becomes mature. In the end, he returns to his home and resumes his normal size, becoming a good boy.
