When Slovenia joined the European Union in 2004, people in Slovenia become the citizens of the EU. EU citizenship does not replace national citizenship but is additional to it, since EU citizens have the possibility to exercise many rights all over the EU. But what do our common citizenship and our living and working in the same community bring? They bring rights and opportunities in many areas. Some rights associated with living and free movement, employment, education, social security and health care, single market and right to vote and to be elected have been linked with statistical data and Slovenia has been ranked on the scale of EU Member States.
