One little boy and one untidy bedroom lead to a battle that rages through the night. Why do we always have to tidy our bedroom? The Mess Monster reveals what happens when, gradually, the odd sock, a worn t-shirt, some dirty shoes, toys and food crumbs become one, turning on the owner with fierce determination. Of course, it all starts with the pesky little Dusty Fluffs who sneak from those hidden crevices of the room. Quickly, the problem builds towards the emergence of the creature itself. Why is mum always right? She did ask for the bedroom to be tidied up and now the pile of mess has turned more feral than one could imagine. She did warn him. Who would have thought that dusting and vacuuming keep such a big problem at bay? The beast appears from the darkness and it becomes clear to the boy that his decision to watch TV instead of tidy his room was a big mistake. Now he is faced with a challenge of his own making. The hideous monster is no nightmare; this is a real battle. The Mess Monster must be destroyed. But how can this silent, stinking beast be defeated? Is there any way to stop it from devouring everything on the floor and more? The Mess Monster strikes at the heart of an everyday experience in any family household. The audience empathises with the young boy's reluctance to tidy his bedroom and then delight in the creative and imaginative battle that ensues, willing the boy to overpower The Mess Monster and, in turn, see the benefit of keeping his room a little tidier!
