The villain in this book is Zzyk, a dictator who forces Albertans to wear metal bands around their heads. These 'brain bands' send an electric shock to anybody who is breaking a rule. These zaps teach Albertans to do whatever Zzyk wants them to do.

One of our heroes is a 15-year-old boy named Will. Out of curiosity, Will removes his brain band. Within a day, the Albertan army is hunting for him. You may wonder why they're doing that. The answer is that Will is a genius inventor. Zzyk will use him to invent devices that will reveal where the dissidents are hiding.

A second hero is 15-year-old Izzy. She says that she's in Zzyk's army, but if so, why does she help Will escape? Why also does she pretend to like him? Later, she tries to poison him. After that, the two of them go their separate ways.

In the climax of the story, Izzy's mother is forcing her to marry her cousin. It won't be a long marriage because he is planning to sell her to Zzyk. Izzy knows that her cousin is a traitor. If she can't prove that, she'll poison herself. Meanwhile, Will is sensing that Izzy is in trouble, but he doesn't know where she is.

I Got'cha is a love story. Will has no family. The people he lived with before are trying to kill him. Izzy's mom hates her, as do all the dissidents. She's facing a loveless marriage that is not going to end well for her. Both are attracted to each other. Can these two outcasts find love together? You'll have to read the novel to find out.
