Encouraging Reluctant Readers to Read!

YOU WILL NEED A QR SCANNER APPLICATION ON YOUR SMART PHONE/IPAD!!
Reading can be a drag for students who do not have strong reading skills. The problem lays in how to get a student that dreads reading to actually read. To practice reading skills without getting discouraged or bored.

By turning reading into a game this problem is solved. My favorite genre to do this is with a mystery! Mysteries are fun to solve for everyone and if the mystery is created to use as many reading skills as possible, well, then I would call that a winner.

I created the Case of the Captured Cat to practice inference, drawing conclusions and dictionary skills. It requires some set up and a QR scanner on a smart phone or Ipad. This case was created for students in grades 4 or 5 but can be used in upper grades to practice these reading skills as well.
