NORFOLK NOIR SYNOPSIS
A crime and political thriller set in early 90's Norfolk concerning people trafficking, Russian gangsters and radical Islamic terrorists.
The main character, a Chief Inspector Blunt, has been charged with setting up an experimental people trafficking unit. He is provided with a motley crew of misfits. An Asian second in command, who it seems the Met wants to be rid of. A local Sergeant nearing retirement. A feisty female former colleague and a disillusioned ex graduate trainee. All of them, including Blunt, are blemished in some way. It is as if someone wants him to fail.
The discovery of a naked dead woman on Winterton Beach leads him and his team on a trail that uncovers the dark underbelly of Norfolk: a county seen by most as a rural idyll. People trafficking, murder, paedophiles and prostitution are all dealt with in this pacy thriller. The plot twists and turns before it reaches its final and most unexpected denouement.
A battle between the Russian Mafia and Islamic terrorists lies at the heart of the plot. Sub-plots concern the settling of old scores as Blunt's investigations lead him to the political establishment. Also included is a plan to assassinate an Israeli Prime minister at the World Trade Centre. This is masterminded by a nascent Al Quaeda.
The end is as dramatic as it is unexpected.
