Like any other child, she wanted the attention of her father, who mostly remained submerged in his newspaper. She would endeavor by several methods to pull his attention, but he would simply shake or nod his head. For all that little Sohini never felt defeated and she continued her efforts.

Sohini had been looking at a black and white photograph of her mother. It was fixed in a golden frame. She placed that photo with frame next to her right cheek and said to her father, "Papa, don't I look like my mother?"

Her father was sitting on his cot, reading the morning newspaper, adjusted his glasses and looked in her direction and said indifferently, "Hmm...yes...you do."

"Please father, tell me whether I look like my mother," Sohini insisted.
