Rainforest Animals Research Reading

Thank you for exploring this reading resource. You can use these simple, nonfiction reading passages with non-readers and fluent readers. You can use them during whole group or guided reading groups. Here are some ideas...

*Provide fluent readers with their own copies of the passage. Students can highlight passages and then record the information on the corresponding tree charts.

*Read aloud the passage to nonreaders. Create a class chart based on the facts. Or read the passage and have students trace the facts on the cut-and-paste fact sheets.

*Ask beginning readers to highlight key words or sight words.

* Identify verbs and nouns and make lists. (For example, for tree frogs, jump, croak, and eat could go on the verbs list. The nouns list could include eyes, suction cups, and legs.)

*Project the passages or have them printed onto poster-sized paper for use with shared reading.

*Put all of the passages in a center to create an independent research area.
