Womaniser Klaus Kinser, conducting the West Midlands Philharmonic Orchestra, falls headlong into the orchestra pit, very dead. What looks like a heart attack is anything but - his body has surprisingly stopped producing proteins. Forensic scientist Jane Keller is hard pressed to identify the source of the problem as more musicians die, without apparent motive. Intriguing detective work leads to an electrifying climax, with a totally unexpected and ironic twist in the tail.
