On their way to work, two men discover the body of a young soldier hanging from the beams of an abandoned wine cellar. His feet were touching the ground, his own belt wrapped around his neck. Inspector Lukas, alias Gramps, is called upon to investigate the "suicide". Although the army quickly halted the investigation ruling it a case of suicide, Gramps determines that this was indeed a murder committed by person or persons unknown.
