One of the most pessimistic Russian writers, Andreyev (1871–1919), describes in his novel (inspired by an actual event), "The seven who were hanged", the last night in the life of seven peopled condemned to death. They are two criminals and five terrorists found guilty of an aborted attempt against the life of an important bureaucrat. They come to the conclusion that even if they failed, they were successful and go to gallows calling the criminals "brothers". It is a novel that describes in depth human sentiments and it is, at the end, an impressive song of faith.
