"Never Give Up, Son" is a book that tells the story of the author's mother and father, but also hits a lot on mental illness and racism. The author explains why the murder of a politician was not the City of Griffith's greatest tragedy, but rather the mysterious disappearance of Paulo Lorenzo Guerra, who was incarcerated in a mental asylum for forty years. The author believes that racism is a form of mental illness. Why four innocent men were sent to a place worse than death needs some explaining, certainly it was Griffith's greatest tragedy. However, the author has taken away a lot of the sadness by telling of his battles with the truckies of Razorback, his ties with the Griffith families, his feuds with the railway barons, the building of a transport empire, and the antics he was to get up to at King's Cross Sydney, Griffith and Yenda - all of these should make for interesting reading and will raise a few eyebrows.
