During a rare Solar Flare, Butzy and Jude, her sister, discover a wormhole to a parallel universe. When they learn of the premature, tragic death of one of Papa’s childhood friends, a Lakota Sioux child, fifty years earlier, the girls must decide whether or not to use Herbert, the antique grandfather clock and time machine (of The Herbert Trilogy I), to travel through the “pathway” in order to save the boy’s life.
