The volume begins with Melissa Conroy’s essay on teaching in developing countries and the hurdles that many educators face, such as inadequate training, an increasing number of students, and a lack of resources, facilities, and transportation. Conroy goes on to examine the global shortage of teachers as the demand for education increases worldwide. Gender discrimination also acts as a serious barrier to education for women around the world and distinct gender disparities persist today. Special education students also face a unique set of obstacles, and many countries lack the resources to provide these students with trained teachers and adequate academic support.
