The collection begins with Sheryl D. McClinton’s overview of the principles and applications of risk management.
McClinton lists the common dangers that businesses often face, such as information technology, weather, and business
ethics risks. There are many benefits and costs that go along with risk management; Simone I. Flynn discusses these
factors as well as the management and mitigation strategies that are often used, such as enterprise risk management
(ERM), alternative risk transfers (ART), and risk differentiation. Seth M. Azria reviews enterprise risk management
in particular, an approach that incorporates all departments of an organization in the identification and evaluation of
that company’s risk. Michael Erbschloe goes into further detail by explaining how ERM and analysis can assist boards
of directors, corporate managers, investors, and industry analysts. Azria then discusses liability risk management
and outlines the steps to eliminate known risks and prepare for uncontrollable risks. Flynn examines the relationship
between comparative risk analyses, cost-benefit analyses, and public policy decision-making.
