forces behind the shift toward corporate responsibility including regulatory issues, social and political activism,
marketing, and consumer pressure. He also describes the process of shareholder activism in encourage companies to
fulfill their social responsibilities. Simone I. Flynn’s essay focuses on the practice of community reinvestment and
describes the influence of the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977. Flynn goes on to outline the implementation,
compliance, and examination procedures of the CRA. Erbschloe examines the role of corporate leaders as volunteers
and provides the history of executive volunteerism. He then discusses the types of projects they support, the funding
they provide, and the return on involvement in corporate volunteer programs. In addition to volunteering, companies
are also providing support for public and charitable organizations. Erbschloe discusses the trends of business funding
for the arts and for public libraries, and reviews the associated benefits and potential problems.
