The volume begins with an essay by Ruth A. Wienclaw that broadly overviews the concepts involved in organizational behavior, which, as defined by Wienclaw, “is the study of the functioning and performance of individuals, groups, and teams within organizations as well as of organizations as a whole.” More specifically, organizational behavior can be used by managers to help them become better leaders, evaluate team cohesion and performance, and determine team contributions to the organization. As a result of its uses, having a practical understanding of organizational behavior is necessary in order to be an effective business leader. Many managers also rely on organizational consultants who use human performance technology to elicit higher organizational performance. Marie Gould believes human performance technology to be the world’s economic future due to its ability to alleviate and remedy performance problems within a company.
