Teen Mary Margaret becomes pregnant in the Great Depression, from Jacko, the right man at the wrong time. Her father has just murdered her mother, leaving her to raise two younger sisters. She is about to tell Jacko of the pregnancy when he informs of her of his decision to enter the Priesthood. Devastated, she places the baby, Thomas, for adoption. She struggles to raise her sisters on her own and meets Johnnie, a NYPD Detective who guides her. She goes on to marry Johnnie and they adopt three children; but her heart will always ache as she wonders what happened to her son, Thomas. Fifty years later Mary Margaret is a paralegal, Jacko is a Bishop, and Thomas became a district attorney prosecuting the high profile cases involving Catholic priest abuse of children. While their lives are seemingly worlds apart, Mary Margaret will soon learn how close they truly are.
