Colin and Alex have been good friends since school days. However, their respective outlooks on life are quite different: Colin cannot understand Alex's carefree and almost flippant approach to her life, while Alex thinks that Colin is crazy to tie himself down with family responsibilities when there are so many other enjoyable things he could be doing. Colin moves away with his family and the two friends lose touch with each other for some years. When they finally reunite under unusual circumstances, a profound change has taken place in one of them.
