More than half of people over 65 complain of memory less efficiently. In the elderly the feeling of a reduced cognitive performance and decreased memory is derived strictly from neuro-biological factors both psychological and social factors that intersect and reinforce each other: the more negative the result is the abandonment of any activity requires even minimal cognitive effort resulting in isolation and social withdrawal. Nerve cells (neurons) are the elementary units of the brain. As we age we gradually lose, but thanks to the high number of nerve cells (redundancy) and the ability of residual cells to increase the connections between them (brain plasticity), our brain may be able to remain functionally intact into old age . To maintain a healthy memory, this text aims to provide a valuable aid to understand the mechanisms that govern its operation, such as exercise and how to prevent and adequately address the possible problems closely related to the senile age.
