With an assassin and a jackal-headed god on her heals, Amadi picks up a young Sphinx although the Phoenix warns her of the species' danger. Complicating her flight even more is her growing attraction for her new employer's bodyguard, and it doesn't help that the new employer falls in love with her half-sister.
