Inside the Detroit International Airport, Warren Langhammer proves he's one of the best assassins in the business. He makes a hit no one else would even consider. But the C.I.A. and the local police are expecting him and are on his trail an instant after the hit.

What they didn't expect is college English instructor Joanna Youngblood. Joanna is at the airport to drop off her colleague for a year's sabbatical in Europe. Yet, the instant she sees the fleeing Langhammer something clicks. She has to help this man even though she knows nothing about him, what he's just done or why the authorities are after him.

Together they escape across the country to Arkansas where an old friend of Joanna's reveals the past of this pair to them – a past of many life times but always lives of love, and loss. The future doesn't appear much different as Langhammer's pursuers close in.
