Javi Asher's Anglo father pushed his Latina mother down a flight of stairs and killed her. It was a young Javi's testimony that sent his dad to prison for that crime. So, Javi really didn't give a damn when someone murdered his father after he was out of prison. But why is it that this man Javi knew so well and hated, isn't the same man others knew?

Javi very unwillingly gets involved in his father's life again after his old man is killed because he is still his next of kin. Javi goes through the motions and sees to the cremation and reading of the will only to meet people who not only liked but admired his father for his character and moral values. In order to understand what he's missing, Javi take on his father last case (his dad, a former cop, had become a P.I. when he was released).

The case involves the attempt to track down the birth parents of a girl who is now a stripper and a hooker. Where all this leads surprises not only the young woman, Reva, but Javi and the legal system as well.
