A closed world of insiders. An influx of outsiders.
Three old graves on Cherokee Bluff, their occupants and secrets long forgotten, become the center of an unusual land dispute when a stranger brings news of past events that will rock a local community's understanding of its history.
Two photographs and a map. The wear on the cracked sepia toned prints told their age. The man in the photograph certainly had Raintree blood flowing in his veins. At his side stood a small boy, about 10. The reverse side carried the surname expected, along with specifics no one could guess: Raintree, Lucas and Job. 1844. These were family Bible names, but not even the family had a picture.
Pardis was the last of the Raintree family who knew the story of Job. Lucas never had another son. And Job grew up to beget Jessup who begat Sylvester who begat Pardis. Tangled family memories said Lucas raised Job out of kindness, others said there was money involved. Either way, it didn't matter about the past. This was 1982. There was land involved and, if the stranger was right, treasure below the land.
