P.I. Darren Camponi thinks its a coincidence that his next case involves locating an old high school classmate.He soon discovers the once nerdy Jason Caufield is on the run from the government for stealing intellectual property: time travel, and everyone wants it. Could the kid Camponi only knew as an awkward outcast have really done it?

Things get complicated when the government threatens Camponi. Mysterious problems befall his family. Then, the man who hired him for the job dies suspiciously. The pressure mounts and Camponi must either turn in Jason, or help him by volunteering to test the machine. It's a decision he does not want to make.

With no other option, he dives in, opting to be sent back to high school, only to find mysteries lie in the past as well. Now he must carefully choose who to trust in the past and present and solve a mystery nearly two decades old.
