Ideal book for helping children understand the value of other human beings, as well as, the results of well-managed time doing what one loves. Youth, as a school project, can analyze the cost of raw materials, how energy spent planting and harvesting amounts to exercising, the yield of various foods grown vs purchasing them at a supermarket, etc. Also, the lessons of time well spent and how other life lessons are likely available through the elders in their family and/or neighborhood. Similarly, great craft projects tie into this story. Projects that can entertain and teach children in a school setting, as well as, entertain elders in their home or assisted living setting. Likewise, another underrepresented topic in the current reading is also found interestingly handled in this book- Lita's Garden Journey - grieving and overcoming grief in a healthy way. All schools can find this book useful throughout a school year by expanding the scope of the topics covered.
