Four scarf patterns are presented with simple, illustrated instructions

Three of the four scarves are inspired by a novel: Divergent by Veronica Roth. The fourth was my companion on a trip to Sydney, Australia. I rarely knit the same thing twice, but I hope others will take these designs, use them, enjoy them, and adapt them.

Scarves are ideal projects for relaxing knitting. Needle size and stitch gauge are not critical as they would be in a sweater or sock. As long as you like the feel of the knitted fabric you are creating, you are doing it right! Feel free to cast on more stitches for a wider scarf or fewer stitches for a skinny scarf. I want you to own these designs by putting your personal touch on your scarves. Colors can also be changed, of course.

None of the scarves in this book are difficult. The designs depend on color rather than complicated stitch patterns. The following basic knitting skills are assumed: knit, purl, cast on, cast off, and change colors at beginning of row. The tubular scarf also has a whip-stitched seam and knotted fringe.
