Play to Learn features a range of activities that will help teachers use pretend play in the classroom to extend children's oral language, narrative competence, symbolic thinking and problem-solving skills.

The activities are divided into three sections:

- Activities that encourage the exploration of character and roles, the ability to plan and predict narrative, communication using verbal and non-verbal skills, problem solving and logical sequencing, and the ability to use symbols.

- Activities for teaching narrative structure and facilitating imaginative play. Templates are provided, including story sequencing cards, character attributes, settings and themes, plus a board game.

- Story-building activities. The part-stories are designed to be read aloud to children and to invite their participation. They comprise stories with a problem to solve, stories that require an ending and stories that have lots of possibilities.

This book supports a play-based curriculum and ensures students' physical, personal and social skill development.
