Halloween. The wind was howling. The river turned black and the imagination of a nine-year old boy soared.

Sammy and his mom lived in a little brick house by the river. One day he looked down into the water and it swirled, seemed to swell and turned black. There was something there - just below the surface - waiting.

Then Daisy, the little dog on the corner, disappeared. His friend Eric's dog disappeared also. They said the dogs ran away. They said be careful on Halloween night. Things come out of the river. Bad things.

Imagination? Maybe, but then, maybe not.
