"Light In August" by William Faulkner was first published in 1932. The novel belongs to the modernist literary and the Southern Gothic genres.
The story is set in the writers' present day. It happens to be the interwar period. The story revolves around two strangers who visit Jefferson, Yoknapatawpha County, Mississippi, at different times. It is a fictional county which is based on Faulkner's home, Lafayette County, Mississippi.
In the initial part of the novel the story focuses on Lena Grove, a young pregnant white woman from Alabama. She is looking for the father of her unborn child.
