The Setting is in the late 1830's along the Mississippi River. Raised in a house of ill repute, by a widowed mother who worked in the club's kitchen; the young child Lee was spoiled by the ladies who worked there as hostesses. A River Captain Jack held residence at the club to enjoy a place to relax when he was in town. Captain Jack took a liking to the child Lee. After the death of Lee's mother, Jack took Lee to live with him on his River boat. There the boy learned to maneuver the boat, play the piano, and catch cheaters at the card games.
