The Last Over really was the last Memoir from a fine sporting journalist mainly for the London Daily Telegraph and also a former BBC broadcaster. He made this recording at the age of 91 and sadly died soon after. An authoritative account largely of cricket from a man whose knowledge of the game was second to none! E.W. 'Jim' Swanton was cricket correspondent for the London Daily Telegraph for over 30 years and also was the BBC TV summariser at the end of each day's play at the test matches for almost as many years. Here in his "beautifully produced brown treacly voice with ecclesiastical overtones" he recounts many of his articles he has written for the said newspaper. Whilst most of his reading is about cricket there are some memorable accounts of his time as a prisoner of war under the Japanese during World War 2. Mainly for those who love cricket but also for those who love the ripe slightly plummy tones and attitudes of the quintessential Englishman.
