At the age of five, Elizabeth's innocent childhood is wrecked by a despicable act, one she would be burdened with for most of her life. Trust and love become two emotions that elude her. Years later, her beloved grandmother asks her to fulfill a promise that she herself had failed to do in her own sad life. Disillusioned with the idea of love Elizabeth believes that she will never be able to fulfill the promise she made, and marries Ahmed, an ambitious, wealthy lawyer from the Middle East. She leaves Scotland to start a new life with him, hoping to leave her ugly secret behind, but is soon sorely disappointed being thrust into a world full of deceit, hypocrisy and corruption. She finds herself trapped in a life of apparent opulence to most, but in reality she in nothing less than a prisoner. Desolate she gives up on life believing it is all over for her, but fate has other plans for her and a new and unexpected door opens when she least expects it.
